Master of Science Education
LTU has upgraded the MSE Program to comply with the Integrated Science DI Endorsement standards. The second track in the MSE Program (MSE with DI) requires 36 credit hours for completion.
The Master of Science Education program is designed for individuals who wish to strengthen competencies in the teaching of elementary school through high school and who may also want to renew their provisional certificates of teaching, to obtain professional certificates and/or science endorsement from the Michigan State Board of Education (through Aquinas College and UD Mercy). Instruction emphasizes active participation by students and interaction with the instructor and fellow students. Classes teach content while modeling the methods of teaching and learning that should be used in K-12 science classrooms. Participants in the Science Education program learn science content and concepts by means of experiences, discussion, and writing-the same processes from which their own students will be expected to learn.
The objectives of the Master of Science Education program are:
- To provide teachers with a broad base of scientific knowledge appropriate for elementary school through high school instruction, as well as techniques and tools that allow successful presentation of scientific concepts to their students. Courses combine science content and methods of teaching within an integrated learning experience.
- To provide teachers with scientific knowledge and updated teaching techniques that will help them create a classroom environment where science is exciting, challenging, student-centered, and inquiry-driven.
- To provide teachers with the graduate educational experience needed to obtain the professional certificate or a K-12 Science endorsement (certification through Aquinas College and U of D Mercy, please contact Penelope Morris for specifics depending on your situation at pmorris@ltu.edu or 248-204-3533). A $200.00 fee is a one-time processing fee that Lawrence Tech will pay Aquinas/UDM for certification needs. This fee will be paid by the candidate upon application for certification.
