Dr. Stephanie Hall-Sturgis received her Bachelor of Science degree in Written Communications from Eastern Michigan University in 1990. She received her Master of Arts degree in English from Eastern Michigan University in 1997. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Composition and Rhetoric from Wayne State University in May 2006. Dr. Hall-Sturgis’s dissertation explored whether community-based pedagogy fosters critical consciousness in university writing students and in community learners with whom they collaborated. Her research interests include service learning, critical theory and critical pedagogy.

Before coming to LTU, Dr. Hall-Sturgis taught Intermediate Composition at Wayne State University, and developmental writing at Washtenaw Community College and Henry Ford Community College. She also taught Academic Literacy (developmental reading and writing) at Oakland Community College. At LTU, she teaches composition courses for the HSSC department.
