Randy Schantz earned degrees in English, German and French languages and literatures (BA Michigan State University, MA and PhD Wayne State University).  His academic concentrations were on folklore, anthropology and 19th-century literature.  His master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation were on the works of the 19th-century German author and anatomist Georg Büchner.  He has studied and taught in Germany and Austria.
