Honors Program

Are you a high-achieving student who wants to meet challenges at the highest level and to get the best preparation for your professional career or post-graduate education?

The Lawrence Tech Honors Program may be exactly what you are looking for.  It has been designed to provide educational excellence for highly qualified and highly motivated students like you--students prepared for an educational experience that surpasses the already challenging curricula offered at LTU.

Honors Advantages

  • Special summer internships
  • A comprehensive liberal arts core that will leave you well-prepared for graduate or professional school
  • Assistance in researching, and applying to, programs for advanced study
  • A designated faculty member as your honors advisor.  He or she will work closely with you to make sure you get the most out of your Honors experience
  • Membership in the Honors Society
  • Participation in a substantial community service project as part of the Honors Society

The Honors Society

All students admitted to the Honors Program will be inducted into membership of the Honors Society.  At the Society's regular extracurricular social and academic programs, you will meet, enter into discussions with, and celebrate with your fellow Honors students and your professors.

The Honors Society will convene several times a year for:

  • Debates
  • Presentations of academic projects
  • Panel discussions mixing students and faculty
  • Dramatic, literary, or musical performances
  • Social events

Recognition

When you graduate with honors, you will be recognized at commencement.  This distinction will be noted on both your transcript and your diploma.

Goals

The Honors Program endeavors to:

  • Provide you with rigorous academic challenge.
  • Enhance your intellectual and social experience.
  • Promote your creativity and critical thinking.
  • Enrich your college experience through courses, including interdisciplinary projects, beyond the requirements of your major.
  • Develop your leadership potential through academic achievement and service to the University and the community.
  • Prepare you to excel in graduate studies.
  • Recognize your achievement.

The Program

Your Honors classes will be taught at a deeper, more challenging level, both in the quantity and the quality of learning.

Honors course work is offered in either stand-alone honors courses, regular courses with an "honors option," or special sections of standard courses.  When you have satisfied all applicable Honors Program criteria and university graduation requirements, you will graduate "With Honors." (Click here for more details on policies and procedures.)
