ALTERNATIVE ENERGY STUDENT GROUP - AESG

Providing students with a medium whereby they can apply educational studies to real world applications in alternative energy technologies.

AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS - AIAS

A student based organization whose focus is on the profession of architecture. The goal of the group is to establish a community through mentoring, service and leadership. The AIAS gives the student the opportunity to network with architects and firms in the design environment.--Various events include:

  • Membership Criteria-Currently enrolled architecture
    students, $60 membership fee
  • "Forum"-Milwaukee during Christmas break—Seminars, workshops and tours
  • "Dinner with an Architect" series—informal discussions with local architects
  • "Grassroots"-Washington, D.C.—Annual chapter leadership conference of AIAS
  • Silent Auction
  • Freedom by Design Project
  • Winter Celebration—Winter themed welcome back party sponsored in conjunction with AIAS and other Architecture and Design student groups, features the top student work from the Fall semester
  • Mentoring program-Network of volunteer architects to mentor with students
  • Tours of architecture firms and famous designed homes
  • Participation in many national design competitions
  • Fundraising events: Car wash, bake sale, candy sale, t-shirt design competition
  • Gift certificates and 20% discounts to Millers Art supply

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF HEATING, REFRIDGERATING AND AIR-CONDITIONING ENGINEERS - ASHRAE

ASHRAE gives the students the opportunity to network with professionals in the HVAC    and architectural fields and the tools for creating and sustaining the built environment.  ASHRAE writes and maintains several standards of concern to both Architects and Engineers and has recently formed an alliance with the USGBC.—Membership includes:

  • Free/low cost programs, dinners and tours with the ASHRAE Detroit Chapter
  • Opportunity to enter the Architectural division of the ASHRAE Student Design Competition ($1500 1st Place Award plus travel, hotel, and spending money for one team member for Winter Meeting)
  • Dr. Joseph Olivieri* Memorial Scholarship Competition plus other scholarships and grants
  • Free attendance at Winter Meeting/convention & exhibit w/ special net-working opportunities & tours just for students
  • National publications—ASHRAE Journal, ASHRAE Insights newspaper, HVAC&R Industry eNewsletter
  • Publications discounts including 70% discount on ASHRAE Handbooks

*Dr. Oliveri held several positions at Lawrence Tech including: Associate Professor of both Architecture and Engineering,  Associate Dean of Architecture, and Dean of Engineering prior to his retirement in 1992 and his death in 2002.

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF INTERIOR DESIGN - ASID

To aide students in pursuing design excellence and professional opportunities.

CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS INSTITUTE - CSI

CSI gives the students the opportunity to network with professionals in the construction industry and the knowledge for creating and sustaining the built environment—Membership includes:

  • Programs and tours
  • Committee involvement
  • Golf outings, picnics and a Presidential Gala
  • Robert T. Hobson Memorial Scholarship Competition
  • Annual convention & exhibit
  • National publication—Construction Specifier

INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE STUDENT ORGANIZATION - IASO

To acquaint students with the professional interiors organizations (ASID; IIDA; & CIDR)

Membership Criteria: All majors within the College of Architecture and Design. $5 membership fee into student organization. Option to join ASID; IIDA; and CIDR) at their own fee.
