Masters of Architecture - Sustainable Architecture Concentration

The Graduate Concentration in Sustainable Architecture at Lawrence Tech offers the Master of Architecture (M.Arch) degree to students who complete a 36 credit hour program. Admission requirements include a B.S. degree in architecture with a minimum 3.0 GPA, a portfolio, and three letters of recommendation. Lawrence Tech has one of the largest architecture schools in the U.S. Students who receive this professional degree are eligible to take state administered exams and to become licensed architects.

The Lawrence Tech NAAB Accredited Master's in Architecture may be completed online with the exception of the Master Class studio. This studio can either be completed during an on campus 10 week summer semester or on 4 weekends plus a field trip. The Master Class is a studio led by a firm engaged in critical practice. The 2008 Master Class firm was WORKac and the principals, Dan Wood and Amale Andraos took students on a New York field trip to the installation of their urban garden project that won the 2008 Young Architects Program at the P.S. 1 competition.

Students completing the Master's in Architecture degree online are required to prepare a research-oriented thesis on a specialized subject of the student's choice. The thesis requires weekly contact with the student's committee chair, as well as one on-site meeting with his or her thesis committee per semester.

The Sustainable Architecture concentration is intended to prepare students to enter the practice of architecture with the technical and ethical framework to make sound design and practice decisions with respect to the relationship between the natural, built, and human environments. We emphasize the acquisition of critical design skills and readiness to assume positions in environmentally-focused leadership of design practices in our community and nationally. The ethics of architectural practice is at the forefront of our attitude toward the profession as we recognize the motto of Lawrence Technological University, "Theory and Practice."
