Q: Is the MArch program available completely online?

The Critical Practice Studio is the only course that requires on campus attendance. The Studio is held once each year and occurs over 5 weekends during the Summer Semester. Critical Practice Studio must be successfully completed prior to enrolling in any of the other Graduate Advanced Design Studios or Thesis.

 

Q: What degree is required for entry into the 36 credit hour online MArch program? 

Students applying to the online MArch program must hold a Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree, a Bachelor of Architecture degree, or international equivalent.

  

Q: What course load does a grad student need to take to be considered full-time? 

6 credit hours is considered full-time. This typically consists of two courses per semester.

 

Q: How long does it typically take to complete the 36 credit hour MArch degree? 

Full time students who take 3 courses per semester may complete the program in 4 semesters. The average time to completion is 6 semesters for a typical student.

 

Q: What is the deadline for submitting portfolio and application materials for entrance into the 36 credit hour MArch program? 

February 15 for entrance in the summer semester, May 15 for entrance in the fall semester, and September 15 for entrance in the spring semester.
 

Q: Is the GRE required of those wishing to enter the MArch program? 

The GRE is not required for entrance into the MArch program, though students are encouraged to take the GRE and submit the results with their application to LTU.
 

Q: What TOFEL scores are needed? 

A minimum score of 550 is required if you take the written test and 79 for the internet based exam.
 

Q: What are the portfolio requirements for admissions to the grad program?

The portfolio requirements are:

    A title page with the applicants name, a table of contents, and one-page maximum statement of design philosophy.  

    A range of examples of design work, which show the BEST of undergraduate, design studios. A minimum of one project from each year (i.e. Sophomore, Junior & Senior) should be included. It is recommended that the strongest work come first (avoid a chronological portfolio), and that the verbiage focuses on the theoretical position, design strategies, and process of the particular project.

    Examples of technical drawings, four pages maximum (i.e. site plan, floor plan, elevation, section/details)

Other appropriate portfolio materials include: examples of post-graduate practice work (the work however, must be the applicant's, and clearly identified as such); graphic or furniture design: design competitions; art work, and photography.

Please provide a single pdf file, no more than 25 pages in 8.5 x 11 size (72 dpi minimum screen resolution). The file should be no larger than 15 MB in size and emailed to: admissions@ltu.edu.
 

Q: Are ESL classes offered at LTU? 

Yes, there are various options for those needing assistance with English either through on-campus classes, tutoring or through community-based classes.

 

Q: How many credit hours are required of those seeking the MArch? 

36 credit hours are required for the completion of the MArch program. Holders of a BArch professional degree may complete the MArch at LTU with a minimum of 30 credits, with a review of an official transcript and approved course transfer.

  

Q: What is the cost per credit hour for grad students?

Q: Which degrees are accredited in the College of Architecture and Design? 

The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accredits LTU’s MArch LTU’s MArch is an accredited degree.

Q: Are there any scholarships or other types of assistance available for Graduate Students? 

The College of Architecture and Design has Work Study Scholarships supported by architectural firms.  These scholarships cover half of a student's tuition while the student is also employed half time by the firm.  Research assistantships are available to qualified individuals. Graduate students can also be considered for adjunct teaching assistantships or apply for student assistant positions. For an official transcript review, students must apply to the program.

A $500 deposit is required for international students. The funds will be applied towards the student’s balance as of their second semester in the MArch program.
