Student Projects

Preparing students to “hit the ground running” is a hallmark of a Lawrence Tech education, and the University provides students with many opportunities to get hands-on experiences solving real-world problems. Co-op, part-time work, internships, and participation in professional organizations give students the edge, as do student projects and competitions. Recent exciting student projects include:

  • 2007 Solar Decathlon, an exclusive, international competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, includes just 20 top universities in North America and Europe. Students work for two years to design, build, and operate a solar-powered house
  • Formula Zero, an international competition, challenges students to create and race a zero emission race car. Lawrence Tech is the only U.S. university participating
  • Michigan Zero Energy Home Competition in which students design houses that use renewable energy
  • ASHRAE International Design Competition challenges students to design buildings with environmental impact in mind
  • Storm water management and environmental quality efforts in conjunction with the city of Southfield
