Academic Achievement Center Tutor Biographies

AAC tutors are outstanding Lawrence Tech undergrad and graduate students. Tutors are hired based on their academic achievement, faculty recommendations, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. AAC tutors have knowledge of the University community and are usually involved in various extracurricular clubs and activities.

Sean Abramowicz Sean Abramowicz is currently a sophmore at Lawrence Tech and he is majoring in mechanical engineering, although he dreams of becoming a mad scientist. Sean has been a mathematics tutor since mid-spring of 2011, he likes to watch re-runs of TV shows from his childhood, and his favorite quote is, "In mathematics you don't understand things. You just get used to them." -- John von Neumann.
rose brown

Rose Brown is a 2nd year Chemical Biology major. She is a member of the Life Science Association, LTU Scholars Program, and American Chemical Society. When she graduates from LTU, she plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Genetics. Her career goal is to study drug therapies and genetic diseases, with the aim of treating the disease itself and not just the symptoms of the disease. Outside of school, Rose is a member of the Michigan Senior Women's Hockey League, and plays for the Rochester Icebreakers, out of the Onyx Ice Arena in Rochester, MI. She is a left wing, and is learning to be the back up goalie for the team. 

daniel croft Daniel Croft is a commuter student from Redford, MI. He joined the AAC in the Fall semester of 2011 as a writing tutor who can also help with a tiny bit of Biology (seriously, only Bio. 1 and 2 problems). He is a junior English Major who has been on the Dean's List in three of his first four semesters at LTU. In his free time he enjoys reading any books he can get his hands on and watching marathons of his favorite TV shows.
mike deluca Michael DeLuca is a commuter student from Livonia, who attends LTU to study computer science and game design.  He's been a part of the development of a gome for Game Development class and is currently developing an indie game with some friends to put on XBLA and Steam.  He enjoys video games, card games, and board games, as will as riding bikes and soccer.  He also loves to squash math and code bugs that other people have.
levi dojcsak

Levente (Levi) Dojcsak (pronounced Levy) is a 4th year physics and math dual major. Levi was born in Hungary and has been living in the states for the past 12 years. He has been tutoring in the AAC since August of 2009 and has recently also taught several math and chemistry pre-courses. Levi is the president of the Society of Physics Students (SPS), as well as a member of Math Club, LTU's Honors Society, and was recently inducted into the physics honor society Sigma Pi Sigma. After his last year at LTU he plans to go to grad school to pursue a PhD in theoretical physics.

mark drotar Mark Drotar is a fourth year architecture student, first year tutor, AIAS member and Revit entusiast. Aside from school he likes to be active with his friends playing disc golf, racquetball, and the occasional board/card game.  He lives in Farmington Hills and commuted to school daily.

jessie gauthier Jessie Gauthier is a junior in the Humanities Program and working towards a minor in Economics. She has been working in the Academic Achievement Center for about two years at the front desk and tutoring high school students. Her interests include reading, crafting, and shopping.
Shasta Gibbs - AAC

Shasta Gibbs is from Petoskey, Michigan and attended North Central Michigan College. She is a senior at LTU working on a dual major in Architecture and Civil Engineering. Shasta studied in Florence, Italy for the fall of 2010 and hopes to graduate May of 2012. Shasta plans to continue her education after graduation to get her Masters in Structural Engineering. Shasta enjoys playing soccer, running and dancing. Shasta joined the AAC staff in fall 2008, and became a math tutor in the summer of 2009. Shasta won the “2009 Calculus Student of the Year” award.

Ibrahim Huthman Ibrahim Huthman is a Sophomore majoring in Civil Engineering.  He is an international student from Nigeria.  He loves playing Soccer and is a former LTU soccer player. His favorite team is the Arsenals.
felicia koch Felicia Koch is a second year student in Civil Engineering. She commutes from Redford, MI. This is her first semester tutoring in the AAC. She is here to help with Intro to Chem, University Chem, Math up thru Calculus 1, and with high school students. This past summer, she worked at a daycare center,so she enjoys being around children a lot. When she's not studying, she enjoys crafting, cooking, scrapbooking, being on the Concrete Canoe Team here at Lawrence Tech, and helping out with LTU CRU.  
ashley maier Ashley Maier is a Sophomore majoring in English and Communication Arts. She is a commuter student but is still involved on campus.  You can usually find her in the dorms with friends or participating in events with her sorority sisters, the awsome women of Delta Phi Epsilon. 
keith marks

Keith Marks is from Elma, New York and moved to Michigan four years ago to attend Lawrence Tech. He is currently an Architecture and Interior Design dual major and plans to graduate in the spring of 2012. Keith has received honors in his IDS1 and IDS2 studios, as well as an honorable mention in the freshman Cardboard Chair Competition. Keith has also won international design competitions in Italy and the Brinkmann Scholarship from Gensler. Keith studied for a semester in Florence, Italy last fall where he traveled around Europe during his stay.  He enjoys snowboarding, soccer, playing his guitar, and long walks on the beach. After graduation, Keith plans on getting his masters degree in Architecture and eventually opening his own firm.

Emily Matt

Emily Matt is a third year Architecture major and has been tutoring
English and ESL for the past year. In the past she has volunteered as
a Copy Editor for her High School newspaper. In her free time she
helps others with their education in any way she can. She is
experienced in helping all levels of English students because she
lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil for three years and went to an
International School for that time.

andrew neevel

Andrew Neevel graduated from Lawrence Tech in May 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in architecture. He is currently taking graduate classes at Lawrence Tech as his education continues over the next two years.  Born and raised in Kalamazoo, MI he has a strong desire to help communities through architecture and community development via volunteering.  He is seeking work that will further his knowledge and experience in the field of architecture both within and outside of the office environment.

He has a strong passion for architecture which began in High School in his Architectural Drafting courses which he took through the Education for Employment program.  However, even with the ease that technology offers, nothing can trump a good model and he always strive to communicate ideas through the use of architectural models.

sterling russell

Sterling Russell is an adjunct faculty member who teaches University Seminar and tutors and does workshops for the AAC. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan. She holds a BA in English and a MA in Guidance and Counseling from U of M, and an Education Specialist degree from Wayne State University. She has taught high school English in Ann Arbor, math and English in Mwanza, Tanzania, East Africa, and GED preparation classes for adult students in Garden City. She was the director of Guidance and Counseling and co-principal at St. Martin De Porres High School in Detroit, and the assistant principal and principal of Birney Middle School in Southfield. She retired in 2007 after 18 years with the district and 33 years in public and private education. Professor Russell does freelance editing work for a local textbook publishing company, Professor Russell, a Southfield resident, has been married to her husband, Ira, an engineer, for 35 years. They have 2 children, both of whom are engineers.

Christine Sass graduated with her Bachelors in Architecture last December.  She has been working as a tutor and at the front desk of the AAC for several years now.  In addition to tutoring she also leads Structures 1 and 2 pre-courses occationally and was a Structures 4 TA for two semesters.  She lives in Royal Oak with her husband their two cats and three chickens.  With any luck she will have a goat some day too.

cassandra sepanik Cassandra Sepanik  is a fifth year dual major in architecture and interior architecture, although she's pretty sure she likes interiors better because it is more creative.  She is also a very active member as well as the social events coordinator this year for LTU CRU.  Writing is something she's always been good at, which is probably why she's a writing tutor.  She has even written a few short stories in her time.  Just let her know what you need from you paper and she'd be happy to help!
Rifat sheikh Rifat Sheikh is currently a sophomore and majoring in Electrical Engineering. He was born in Ann Arbor, MI but is originally from Bangladesh and finished high school there. He appreciates music of all genres and enjoys watching TV shows and foreign art films. In his spare time he likes to play his guitar, soccer and ping-pong. He wanst to pursue his master’s degree in alternative energy and work on reducing our dependence on crude oil. blake simpson Blake Simpson is into the third year of his Business Management degree. He has completed Accounting Principles 1 and 2 for his first semester of tutoring. Blake has worked in retail and in a restaurant in the past 5 years from cashier to shift manager. He lives with his brothers at the Phi Kappa Upsilon Fraternity House on 9 Mile Road. Blake also enjoys hanging with friends, movies, and politics.
mike skupny

Michael Skupny is a senior computer science and mathematics tutor, majoring in the first and minoring in the second. He originally joined the AAC in January 2010 and now returns for his third semester of tutoring experience. He is the vice president of Blue Devil Development, Lawrence Tech's game development organization. Mike hopes to continue into graduate school, eventually receiving a doctorate in Computer Science and becoming a full-time professor. In that regard, his current interest in his field is computer science education, both in analyzing computer science instruction techniques and creating applications for all educational subjects. He still enjoys gaming, though, as well as dabbling in music composition, writing, and drawing.

erin smith Erin Smith is an Architecture 3+ student and has her bachelor in Interior
Design with minors in Art History and Construction Technology from
Central Michigan University.  Originally from Chelsea, MI she now
lives in Jenison, outside Grand Rapids, with her husband and furry
adopted children.
matt thie Matt Thie is a senior EE major with a 4.0 GPA at LTU.  He is a commuter who has previously bompletes a B.A. in Science and Business Administration from Ohio Valley University, a private Christian school where he was "educated to serve"; he has carried this mentality into everything he does and greatly enjoys helping others in any way he can.  He currently also works at DTE Energy in the Power Systems Technologies division, which works on alternative and renewable energy sources.  He has played baseball since the third grade and enjoys playing sports in general, as well as working on construction/handyman jobs, working outside, playing video games, and spending time with his wife and 3.5 year old son.
kevin ure Kevin Ure is studying Computer Science with a Game Design focus. He is from Troy, Michigan. For years he thought he was going to study
Aeronautical Engineering but after realizing this was not the
profession for him, he decided to pursue his passion for programming.
jj wierenga JJ Wierenga is a fifth year Lawrence Tech student working on his Dual Degree in Architecture and Civil Engineering, with one more year to go. He has been working at the Academic Achievement Center for the past year and a half with a specialization in ESL tutoring. He has been traveling all over the world since he was very young and prides himself on being a worldly person. Traveling to all different regions of the world helps him to relate to students of all different back grounds.
